While I was busy hopping planes and trying my best to catch US master in airports lounges, some people are actually talking about the Big Sunday clash between Arsenal and Manchester United.
Just when I thought that we have passed this fixation on English soccer when Robbie Fowler left Liverpool for Leeds in November 2001, I am obviously wrong.
A quick change of radio channel to any of the overly high andrenalin pumping english speaking shows , you can hear that English football is much the talk of town
The fact that Kedah has secured the Malaysia Premier League was never mentioned or talk too in any of these pretentious radios shows. But when it comes to English football, they seems to know everything.
What a pity? They are missing the excitement of watching the game in stadium , not on their sofas or at kedai mamaks.
Doesn't help one bit when you have Singaporean on paid cable TV talking their ass off about english soccer. Singaporean talking about soccer in general is already a crime in some states. (they call it soccer..soccer my behind!)
The only reason why english soccer is big in Malaysia and other Asean countries is bcos of the illegal bets that its generate. The pundits information that comes with each games and the bunch of legal internet gambling sites catering for each games , generate such info tsunami that you can't really tell on what is legit and what is not.
Now for the normal kids growing up today, they get sucks into it and thinking it is the best in the world and local football scene sucks. None of them have ever support and watch local outfit fighting it out in a stadium near me and you. No one talks about English clubs/players like we used to in the 80's. You will have your favorites there but then you will always relate your local player to the one there. How Penang's Rukumaran , a left legged winger, would be compared to Spurs's Waddle. How Mat Zan Mat Aris of Kedah has similar style to that Tony Adam's of Arsenal.
Thing turn for the worst when you throw in cable tv now have the ability to form public thoughts and interest while we get fix on the notion that English Premier League is the football that everyone should watch and Singaporean are the pundit and show presenters that we should listen too.
Time to drive down your local stadium and check out the next match. Watching a game live in a real stadium (no, your couch/sofa/tv set is not a stadium, you moron!) will change your life!
I am too disgust to write any further!
